Aug. 22, 2012 – At Sea

Ate a leisurely late breakfast because we plan to skip lunch, as it’s sandwiched in between two Mariner Brunches; the 2+ star Mariners from 11 to noon and the 1 Star Mariners from 1 to 2, with lunch in-between.  We figured it would be too much of a zoo at either the brunch or lunch.

Sea days are packed with things to do, but I enjoy just watching the sea, seeing the shades of gray and blue and white all around.  A couple of flirtatious rainbows made their appearance, and Karin saw dolphins (porpoises?) and the flick of a whale’s tale.

Another fun cooking demonstration with Chef Nilton, making Penne Alla Vodka (this one is pretty simple and I’ll try it at home), and Limoncello Cream, which is considerably more involved.  They passed out samples of the Lemoncello Cream, and it’s absolutely delicious.  I will have to try this one weekend, when I have a few hours to devote to cooking, and invite family over.

The final Team Trivia round, at which Karin and I did our level best and maintained our crown of average.  We finished fifth overall.

Setting up for mixology class.

I attended the Virtual Tour of the Bridge presentation in the Queen Anne Theater.  It was fun in a geeky, informative way, and was followed by a question/answer session.  Karin had her final wine-tasting session, comparing European wines and American wines.

I peeked in on the Cupcake Tea, but didn’t indulge, as there is the Dessert Extravaganza this evening.  It’ll be interesting, as it’s being held in the atrium on Decks 3, 4 and 5 rather than around the Lido Pool.  I’m curious to see how this turns out.

Not having learned our lesson, Karin and I participated in the Alaska Trivia and finished in a tie for second (out of 6 teams).  We sat on the aft deck, soaking up some sunshine, though it looks as though the rain is following us home.  Thoroughly in need of refreshment, we attended “A Little Something Extra” with party planner April (and her mom, whom we all just call Mom) at the Wine Bar.  Bleu cheese and a very nice red wine made for a delightful appetizer.

Karin is off walking the decks, trying to avoid the water cascading down from overhead as the tenders are getting hosed off and washed down.  She’s going to lose….

Now it’s off to change for our last Formal night.
